Are you ready to buy some great local art? The award-winning 6x6@110 fundraiser opens its doors at 6 pm tonight!

For several weeks, artists, patrons and the public have picked up 6-inch-square canvases upon which to create art in any media.

Find the event in Gallery Main Street, located at 110 W. Erwin St.

Now, canvases have been returned, and staff and volunteers have closed the Gallery to the general public. These mini masterpieces have been hung and prepped for sale.

“We have seen anywhere from 500 and 1,000 canvases returned to us for this event,” said Beverly Abell of the City of Tyler Main Street Department.

Visitors will have a half hour to view the pieces. At 6:30 p.m., a horn will blow, signaling the time when art can be selected and taken off the wall for purchase at $20 for each piece, with all proceeds going toward Downtown Tyler arts.

“Though our department is part of the City of Tyler,” Abell said, “many people do not realize that we have to fund raise a significant portion of our operating budget. Through the generosity of those who create the canvases and those who purchase them, we are able to raise money to continue to promote the arts in the downtown area.
