If your putting off that family vacation due to the price of gas, don't, use these tips to outsmart those high gas prices! The key to saving gas is to keep your car in good shape! Simple things like checking tire pressure and changing the oil and filter in your car, can make a huge difference on your gas mileage. In fact, clean air filters can get up to 14 percent better gas mileage. Be sure and use the grade of oil that is recommended for your car, this will add efficiency as well. According to AllYou, changing  your oil and filter every 5,000 miles should be sufficient for people who drive normally. Some oil change places say3,000 miles, but I had a dear family  friend that was a mechanic,  that told me 5,000 miles was a good number to go by.

You may want to consider changing your oil more frequently if:

You drive like a knucklehead: jackrabbit starts, heavy acceleration or high-speed driving

You live where the climate is extremely hot or cold

You often drive on dirt roads

Your engine is old and burns oil

You frequently carry heavy loads

So don't sweat the high gas prices this summer, follow these simple car maintenance rules and hit the road for the family trip you've been putting off! Happy Trails!
