The first baby born in 2013 in Tyler came into the world at 12:45 a.m. on Jan. 1 at Trinity Mother Francis Hospital.

Who was the lucky Mom?

There was more than one woman in labor at Trinity Mother Francis Hospital on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, but only one will be remembered for giving birth to the first baby of the year.

The hospital says Melva Redic gave birth to a son named Mikah Jordae Nelson early on Jan. 1. His due date was Jan. 9, but as all moms know, babies have a mind of their own and will often come into the world when they darn well please. Mikah weighed 6 pounds, 6 ounces at birth.

Congratulations, Melva!
