Sometimes life deals our littlest ones the biggest challenges and that seems to be the case for 10-year-old Anthony Herman, of Marshall. Just nine days into his life, he had open heart surgery to help open his aortic valve because it was pretty narrow. That was 10 years ago, he’s healthy now, but after enduring surgeries on nearly a yearly basis, the time has come to where these surgeries are no longer effective and is in need of a heart transplant.

Anthony’s mom, Kathleen, told the Longview News-Journal, “There’s no other repair. No other options.” However, he’s as active as he can be now but, “he was born with this, and he’s been living with this for 10 years, but he’s old enough now that he gets it.”

Anthony is on a heart transplant waiting list and when the time comes there will be expenses for the surgery, expenses for medication and expenses for recovery. The family has enlisted the help of the Children’s Organ Transplant Association and have organized a fundraiser for the Marshall boy.

The fundraiser for Anthony will be held during the Meet the Symphony concert at Central Perks on Washington St. in downtown Marshall tomorrow (Thurs., Feb. 14th) at 6p. If you can’t make it out to the event you can also make a donation online in Anthony’s name.
