Highway 90 runs through Hondo, Texas, about 40 miles West of San Antonio. As you enter the city, you are greeted with a sign that reads "This is God’s country; please don’t drive through it like hell."

Well, the Freedom From Religion Foundation has asked the city to remove the sign according to the Dallas Morning News.

The foundation’s co-president, Annie Laurie Gaylor, says the sign implies, "...the message that non-believers are not welcome in the city." She continued, "Imagine the public outrage had the city posted a sign saying ‘This is Vishnu’s country."

The mayor of Hondo, Jim Danner, told the San Antonio Express, “There’s no way in hell we’re going to take those signs down. I think when they find out we received that letter, we’ll have total support from the community to keep them.”

The signs are on public land and have used public funds for restorations.

This is similar to the fight over the sign in Hawkins that said "Jesus Welcomes You To Hawkins".
