If you’re anything like me, you’ve got several old cans of paint laying around the garage. You know, the stuff left over after you wife decides she doesn’t like the master bathroom anymore and wants a complete makeover done to it! The City of Tyler Solid Waste Department is here to help you legally get rid of that old paint. They have a paint recycling event coming up this Saturday, May 19th!

There is a really cool event coming to Lake Palestine on Saturday, July 7. It’s called an “Adaptive Aquafest” and is for children and adults with disabilities to experience water skiing! If you are not the parent of, or personally know anyone with a disability, then you may have never thought about the fact that they can’t experience water sports like the rest of us.
A pretty cool event is taking place tonight in Major League Baseball. Maybe it’s not a huge deal to most of the rest of the sports world, but for us here in East Texas, it is! Two East Texans will face each other on the mound tonight. Josh Tomlin from Whitehouse and Philip Humber from Carthage will face off as Tomlin’s Cleveland Indians and Humber’s Chicago White Sox meet at 7:10 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.
There’s no doubt East Texans have a love affair with their pickups. In fact, one in four registered vehicles in the state of Texas are pickups. The sad news is, in a 2011 study conducted by the Texas Transportation Institute, only 80 percent of pickup truck drivers buckle up. This is compared to 90 percent of regular seat-belt users in all other types of vehicles.
Madalyn Starkey was in a college bar in Boulder, Colo., when President Barack Obama strolled through. Needless to say, she was shocked! She had a friend snap the now famous picture and she posted it to her Twitter.
The 2012 Komen Tyler Race for the Cure is set for Saturday, May 12th at Bergfeld Park in Tyler. Registration is going on now! Just visit komentyler.org and fill out your entry on-line! You’ve got to see this video that’s making the rounds today from last nights (4/25) Texas Rangers game. The Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland pitches a ball up into the stands towards a little kid and a guy sitting next to him steals the ball out of mid air. The little boy proceeds to start crying as the guy and his wife or girlfriend begins showing off the souvenir and taking pictures holding the ball.
One of the best catchers in baseball history, and certainly Rangers history, will hang up his glove for good today. Pudge Rodriguez will officially announce his retirement after 21 years in the league. The best part – he’ll do it where it all began – in Texas.
Check out this unbelievable video that just hit the web today. This kid is going to be an overnight superstar by this time tomorrow. Remember — you saw it here first. Apparently his name is Brendan MacFarlane, but not sure how old he is.
