The demand for blood does not decrease during the summer months, although people ready to donate tends to. This Saturday (June 30) to help combat the downswing, Blast over Bullard is hosting a blood drive for Carter BloodCare.

Hospitals depend on blood donations. Blood donors help ensure chemotherapy patients receive platelets they require; red cells get to heart surgery patients; when a lifesaving donor organ arrives, blood is available. To keep pace with demand Carter BloodCare prefers to see 1,000 blood donors daily.

Blast over Bullard is hosting a blood drive from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 30 at 1426 S. Houston St. in the parking lot on the Carter BloodCare bus. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Chelci Amburgy at (903) 894-7223 extension 105.

Remember to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water one to two hours before giving blood. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well on the day of donation, and present a government-issued photo ID each time they give blood.

For more information on donor eligibility and to make an appointment, call 1-800-366-2834 or visit carterbloodcare.org.
