LUFKIN — Testimony continues today in the trial of an East Texas nurse accused of killing five kidney dialysis patients by injecting them with toxic bleach.

During opening statements Monday, Angelina County District Attorney Clyde Herrington told jurors Kimberly Saenz violated the trust of a noble profession.

The 38-year-old nurse is charged with capital murder in the April 2008 deaths and aggravated assault in the case of five other patients injured at the DaVita Dialysis clinic in Lufkin.

Three East Texans Jailed in for Stealing Railroad Property.

LONGVIEW -  Police said railroad employees saw the suspects loading the equipment into a vehicle and gave officers a description of the car. Longview Police officer Kevin Rankin spotted the suspect’s vehicle on Eastman Road

During a search of the suspects, two were found to have brass knuckles in their pockets. Officers arrested all three subjects who were identified as Michael Wayne Marlitt 35 and Jarred Bakarr Holland 21, both of Kilgore and William Randall Brunson 21, of Longview. Brunson was arrested on a total of ten

charges including Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Theft M/A, and a warrant for military desertion. Marlitt was arrested on charges including Criminal Trespass, Theft M/A, Prohibited Weapon, and a no insurance warrant. Holland was arrested for Criminal trespass and Theft M/A, and he was also issued 4class C citations. All three were are Gregg County Jail.

East Texan gets 35 years for scalding toddler son

NACOGDOCHES — An East Texas man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to injury of a child.

Prosecutors say Anthony Watts poured boiling water on his 2-year-old son  causing burns to 70 percent of his body.

The Nacogdoches Daily Sentinel reports court testimony indicates Watts has a diminished mental capacity. Prosecutors say the man was under the influence of marijuana when the boy was burned .

Doctors say  ZaTaurean Pleasant who recently turned 4 years old, still has scars but has grown into a healthy child.

 

Woman Who Received Breast Injections Released from Hospital

TYLER -- The woman who was hospitalized after receiving an illegal breast augmentation procedure at a Tyler hair salon is out of the hospital after spending more than three weeks in ICU.

Tyler police say 26-year-old Sheena Bradford of Longview was hospitalized with severe pain and shortness of breath after receiving the injections for breast augmentation at the Queen Divas Salon.

The owner, Carmel Foster is jailed in Smith County and charged with illegally practicing medicine.

TYLER - A Tyler man has been found guilty for aggravated assault of his 2-month-old daughter.

Saul Lino Porcayo, 25, was accused of hitting his child and causing a skull fracture, resulting in a permanent brain injury. The baby girl survived and is in foster care.

The sentencing phase of the trial begins today.Porcayo faces up to life in prison.

 

Earthquake -- Yes, Earthquake -- in West Texas

EL PASO — A small earthquake has rattled parts of West Texas. The U.S. Geological Survey says last night's 2.5 magnitude quake was centered about 11 miles east of El Paso. Law enforcement officials in the city say no one has been injured.

 

Texas Working to Reduce Juvenile Inmates

AUSTIN — A Texas legislative panel will meet today to discuss how to reduce the number of young people in the state's juvenile justice system. Members of the House Committee on Corrections are eyeing early intervention programs and greater access to mental health care.
