The iconic New York department store Bloomingdales is under fire due to an ad that was not only in poor taste but also very difficult to decipher.

The ad which earned a spot in the store's Christmas catalog features a man and a woman with the caption:  "Spike your best friend’s eggnog when they’re not looking."   That's odd.

Needless to say, confused people immediately took to Twitter to express their outrage.  Many described the advertisement as both "atrocious" and "beyond vile".

It is difficult to understand exactly what the ad was trying to convey.

Twitter user Sophie Robinson said: "because who doesn't want to be date raped for Xmas? Cannot believe no one at the ad company thought this was wrong."

Many have now called for the store to donate part of its Christmas profits to various rape charities in order to make amends.

For Bloomingdales part, they have apologized for the ad.  The store tweeted, “We heard your feedback about our catalogue copy, which was inappropriate and in poor taste. Bloomingdale's sincerely apologises.”
