Tyler Public Library will host an event to celebrate the total solar eclipse on Monday, Aug. 21.

According to NASA, a total solar eclipse is when the moon passes between the sun and the earth, blocking all or parts of the sun for up to three hours.

It's been more than three decades since our country has witnessed an event like this. The eclipse is expected to happen between 12-2 pm.

The library has received 200 free solar eclipse viewing glasses, which allow the wearer to observe it, without hurting your eyes. The glasses were provided by NASA and STARnet, as part of a nationwide project to help educate the public about solar eclipses.

They will also show a live-stream from NASA, and observe the eclipse from the library parking lot at 1:15 pm. Light refreshments will be provided, and early attendees will receive a pin hole projector while supplies last.
