Christmas Gifts Stolen From Longview Charity [VIDEO]

Christmas is about caring for others, taking care of those in need and bringing smiles to children’s faces.  As of right now that’s going to be a challenge to make one those things happen because a storage unit that housed all kinds of toys for East Texas foster children was broken into and the thieves made off with a variety of toys and electronics.

The Gregg County Child Welfare Board had their storage unit broke into sometime overnight Wednesday morning and after inspection they reported that iPods, laptops, game systems, small TV’s and cd’s were among the missing.  One of the most hearbreaking things that was taken were Pillow Pets.  Now Pillow Pets might not seem like much but they were intended for a wheel chair bound kid who has trouble sitting up straight and the Pillow Pets were to help him with his therapy.

Paula Hayes with Gregg County Child Welfare Board says,

In one part of me I’m sorry for them that they would sink this low for money when they’re probably going to use it for drugs or alcohol, something they don’t need. I feel like they need to be caught, they need to go through the court system and they need to be punished for what they’ve done.” (kltv)

I know the spirit of Christmas is alive and well here in East Texas and hearing stories like this just makes me angry – that someone would do this and disappoint children at what is supposed to be a special time of the year.

If you’d like to help out and replace some of the items that were taken by the thieves you can drop off donations at Racquet & Jog on W. Loop 281 in Longview or monetary donations can be made out to:
