Palestine City Hall reopened at normal business hours Wednesday after a chemical spill forced evacuations of the building Tuesday afternoon; however, the police office is closed until further notice.

According to a City of Palestine news release, a shelf holding containers of amido black, a mixture of luminol and methanol used at crime scenes, collapsed and spilled the chemical onto the floor Tuesday morning, prompting the evacuation and closure.

Three employees were taken to the hospital for observation and all other employees were treated at the scene and released.

According to an updated news release issued Wednesday morning, the police offices are still closed, and dispatchers and officers will be working from auxiliary buildings.

All dispatch calls are being routed through Anderson County Sheriff's Office and the Palestine patrol officers will work from the public works building.

Officers and dispatchers will respond to calls within the City of Palestine.
