Friday, Dec. 1, marks the anniversary of the day Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat of the bus for a white passenger in 1955.

After refusing the bus driver’s order to move, she was arrested for civil disobedience. Her arrest for this triggered a 381-day boycott of the Montgomery bus system.

A program is set to take place at 9 am on Friday, Dec. 1, at Harvey Convention Center to honor Rosa Parks. The program is free and open to the public. It will be followed by a bus tour of significant areas in Tyler, narrated by several different community members.

The bus tour will last 45 minutes, and will depart at set intervals until noon. The City of Tyler Transit Department requests that you reserve your seat as the bus seats 20 individuals. Call 903-531-1388 to reserve your seat.
