The Whitehouse Area Chamber Of Commerce invites all residents out to Lake Tyler on June 30 for Lakefest. Lakefest is an event for people of all ages with contests, entertainment, food, swimming, and fun events for the whole family.

The event, which is being held at the lake for the first time, features live entertainment from Texas country artist Honeybrowne, mini dog races, a barbecue cookoff, homemade boat race, washer tournament, car show, boat show by Plano Marine, boat rides, a margarita contest, and helicopter rides, and much much more. A famed sand sculptor from South Padre Island is slated to come in to build a sand castle, and the night will be topped off with a fireworks show.

Proceeds will go to the Philadelphia Blessing food pantry in Whitehouse as well as the Tyler Type One Diabetes Foundation. Admission is free, but there is a registration fee for all contests, except the homemade boat race, and the helicopter and boat rides, according to a news release. Donation jars also will be placed at different vendors.

"The purpose for the event is to hopefully generate some money for the nonprofits," chamber president Phil Rogers, said. "The way it started, we have had great community support from Whitehouse. We've done some great fundraisers and this is just something we would like to give back to the community."

There are still numerous vendor spots available as well. If you would like to sign up to be a vendor, compete in a contest, or just get information on the event, you can do so by clicking here.
