Computer Glitch Gives All Pilots Christmas Vacation

If you're planning to hop an American Airline flight to travel out of town for Christmas, you may want to come up with a plan B. 

According to a tweet from ABC 7 reporter, Sam Sweeney, thousands of flights are in jeopardy due to a computer glitch that allowed ALL American Airlines pilots to take vacation time over the Christmas holiday.

The issue came into place when the computer system show ample staff coverage to for certain flights when in actuality there wasn't enough staffing at all. The glitch will force AA to rebuild their pilot schedule similar to what would have to happen in the even of bad weather, according to John Cox, a former commercial airline pilot and CEO of consulting Safety Operating Systems.

According to Bloomberg, about 15,000 flights could be affected from Dec. 17 to Dec. 31. based on information provided by a representative from the Allied Pilots Association. American Airlines Spokesperson, Mat Miller has high hopes both pilots and customers will be taken care of for the holidays.

"We are working through this to make sure we take care of our pilots and get our customers to where they need to go over the holidays,” Miller said.
