Every year, the Christmas shows and movies are rolling full steam at the Merrell household, and sometimes, my kids will even watch.

I'm not kidding.

Nobody loves watching Christmas shows more than I do and through the years I make it a point to watch my favorites.  I certainly watch more than 10 each season, but here are my tops, in no particular order.

    Elf

I'm really not the biggest Will Farrell fan out there, but this role just fits him to a tee, all the way down to his yellow tights and elf hat.  Favorite scene - Buddy's reaction to the announcement that Santa is coming to the store.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas - movie

Jim Carrey must have spent hours in costume in front of the mirror.  He's able to use so many facial expressions through the mask and make up of the Grinch.  Favorite scene - not sure why, but I just love the Who Pudding Cookoff when the Grinch is offered something that is not pudding.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas - cartoon

This one has been a Christmas tradition for me since my first etch a sketch.  Favorite scene - any scene with Grinch's dog, Max.

    It's a Wonderful Life

No other Christmas movie or show drives home such an emotional roller coaster and insight into the human spirit. Plus, Jimmy Stewart has and always will be one of my favorite actors.  Favorite scene - The romantic in me loves the 'Lasso the Moon' scene.

    Home Alone

It's cheesy, it's corny, and the plot is certainly not very believable.  Even with that brood, you would not completely forget a kid.  But, Marv and Harry make the movie for me.  Favorite scene(s) - Any of the slapstick with Marv and Harry.  I think the tarantula scream may be my overall favorite.

    The Polar Express

A great story and the voice actors are spot on.  Of course, Tom Hanks is excellent, as always.  The use of the live action performance capture technique is mesmerizing.  Favorite scene - The scene where the young boy asks Santa for the jingle bell

    Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

This is the 50th anniversary of the 1964 stop motion animated classic.  Yes, the evolution of computer graphics through the years may make this cartoon look like something from the cave man days, but I wouldn't change a thing about it.  Favorite scene - When Clarice tells Rudolph he's cute.

Santa Claus is Comin' to Town

One of the follow ups to the success of Rudolph, this stop motion classic was released in 1970.  This one featured the voice talents of Mickey Rooney, Fred Astaire, and Keenan Wynne.  It's another one of those shows that may not interest the kids born into the computer graphic age but this will always been required Christmas viewing at my house.  Favorite scene - Kris Kringle playing charades with the penguin.

    A Christmas Carol

I know there are many great versions of this classic Dickens tale, but my favorite is this one starring George C. Scott.  His natural gruffness just makes it better for me.  Favorite scene - The transformation of Ebenezer Scrooge.

    Frosty the Snowman

This 1969 classic is also standard holiday fare at the Merrell household.  Of course, singing along while watching the movie is mandatory.  Favorite scene - More charades, this time between Frosty and the rabbit.

    A Christmas Story

Okay, okay...I know the title of the post refers to 10 shows, but I just couldn't narrow it down.  Believe it or not, the first time I saw this movie was about 10 years ago, many years after its 1983 release.  Of course, it's now one of my favorites.  Favorite scene - The frozen tongue...what else?
