Texas Duo Dawn and Hawkes Perform ‘I’ve Seen a Face’ on ‘The Voice’ [Watch]
'The Voice' is off and running, and Austin-based folk duo Dawn and Hawkes created quite a buzz during their blind audition Tuesday night (Feb. 24), performing the Beatles' 'I've Seen a Face.'
The Texan duo, who specialize in indie, folk and Americana blends, are a very in-love couple whose harmonies and chemistry speak for themselves. It was clear from the very first note of their reality show audition that Dawn and Hawkes are something very special.
Both singers were accompanied by their acoustic guitars, and they began their mini set with hushed voices. Coaches Adam Levine and Shakira immediately hit their buttons, already excited about the red-hot duo.
As the song went on, Dawn and Hawkes' voices escalated and soared, showcasing that not only are they in sync personally, but also vocally and emotionally. Their performance paid off, earning them the highest-charting iTunes song of the night (cover available here) and the respect of all the coaches.
"That was my favorite performance I have ever seen -- ever -- on 'The Voice,'" admitted an ecstatic Levine. "This is really going to crush me if for some reason, you do not choose me ... I'm not kidding; I can't make this up."
Country star Blake Shelton added his own two cents with his usual humor. "I'll just tell you what it takes to win the show," he told Dawn and Hawkes. "As a coach and an artist, you create this partnership, and it helps if maybe one of the two people has a lot of Twitter followers!"
Dawn and Hawkes ended up picking Levine as their coach, and he literally fell to the floor in relief, ensuing a few laughs and eye rolls from his peers.
Though new to 'The Voice,' Dawn and Hawkes have been a duo for quite a while. They released an EP 'Golden Heart' to iTunes last year, which you can download here. The pair may have just appeared on TV but their intricately intertwined vocals and captivating stage presence won't leave anyone's minds for quite a while.
