If you love the arts and especially musical theatre, then do not miss TJC's incredible production of "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street". Chloe and I went to the show last night, and we were both in awe of the sheer talent and greatness of the show.

The book was written by  Hugh Wheeler. The phenomenal music and lyrics by renowned,Stephen Sondheim. Sondheim is considered the greatest and possibly the best-known artist in the American musical theater. His credits include: "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", "Company", "Follies", "A Little Night Music","Sunday in the Park with George" and "Into the Woods" . He also wrote the lyrics for "West Side Story" and "Gypsy". I could go on and on, but you get my drift.

I was lucky enough to see the original cast in New York starring,  Len Cariou as Sweeney Todd and Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett. It made such an impression on me even back then.

Being a musical theatre "geek", I realize what a challenge this show is to pull off. The actors have intricate songs , which would push even the most seasoned actors.  It is so intricate and different then anything I've seen.  I must confess I was skeptical that the show could be done . But I was proved wrong. This is a tremendous cast, phenomenal orchestra and the set was incredible.

The show is very dark and morose, so young children shouldn't attend, But if you want to experience  amazing theatre, than you must see this show! The show continues tonight and tomorrow at TJC Wise Auditorium, Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

The next production in the spring is “A Gap in Generations.” In this show, students will get a chance to experience the art of Commedia dell’Arte. The Italian Renaissance styled theatre. The show will be performed in full Commedia dell’Arte costuming along with face masks.
