Has the world gone mad folks? Say it isn't so! If you are one of those who know without a doubt that Dublin Dr Pepper tastes better than the regular Dr Pepper, then you are in for some serious bad news. The drink will no longer be bottled and sold. According to Fox 4 News in Dallas;

Last year Plano-based Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. sued the family-owned business that has been bottling Dublin Dr Pepper for more than a century because of trademark infringement and distribution rights issues.

The parent company said its Dublin bottler was using unapproved artwork on its bottles and claimed that by selling its soda on the internet it had overstepped its six-county territory.

Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc will make a Dr Pepper sweetened with cane sugar that it will distribute to certain parts of Texas, but the “nostalgic packaging” won’t carry the Dublin label.

For decades, anyone entering the First National Bank of Dublin could get a free bottle of sugar cane Dublin Dr Pepper. But not anymore. in fact the Star Telegram reports that Bank Vice President Pat Leatherwood says he will never drink another Dr Pepper again.

As a native Texan and supporter of local businesses, I'm mad and sad. As a young girl my family toured the historic bottling company and I remember loving it. The best part of the tour - drinking Dublin Dr Pepper. By the way, Dublin has 93,000 visitors every year that tour the museum and the famous facility. Just last year, Dublin celebrated their 125th anniversary. They say that Dublin will not shut down, but will be renamed, Dublin Bottling Works. It will produce other soft drinks and continue to operate its museum and Old Doc’s Soda Shop, offering tours and selling soft drinks, food and officially licensed Dr Pepper merchandise.

What is wrong with just leaving things the same sometimes? Is that really asking too much? Small business is the back-bone of this nation. A great Texas historical landmark, gone. Corporate America strikes again!
