East Texas High School Comes Together To Support One Of Their Own [VIDEO]

In an age where bullying has become some what of a nationwide plague, there is nothing more heart warming than hearing about a group of kids coming together to help one of their own. That is exactly what students at Grand Saline High School did when baseball player Erasto Chavez took a baseball to the forehead. Erasto fractured his skull and had a major surgery to piece his skull back together.

The Rachel’s Challenge assembly that was held at Grand Saline High School inspired the student body to come to Erasto’s aide. Rachel’s Challenge is a kindness movement in honor of Rachel Scott, the first victim of the Columbine, Colorado shooting in 1999. Rachel had a theory that if one person can go out of their way to show compassion, then it will start a chain reaction of the same.

With that in mind, the students at GSHS came together and raised over $500 for Erasto and his family in this time of need. All of the proceeds came from both the middle school and high school bodies, the FFA, and GSHS STUCO organizations. Along with the money, students made a paperlink chain with encouraging words to give to Erasto.

We want to give a personal thank you to GSHS and everyone involved in helping Erasto. Thank you for being an inspiration and showing that being kind and compassionate does so much more good than bullying. We hope more schools look to you as examples.
