East Texas Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting 5-Year-Old Girl

A Corrigan man accused of sexually assaulting a young girl on numerous occasions is out on bonds totaling $100,000 after he was jailed and charged with indecency with a child and aggravated sexual assault of a child.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by KTRE in Lufkin, the victim told her grandmother Benito Acevedo sexually assaulted her. During an interview at the Children’s Alliance Center, the girl told a counselor the suspect forced her to perform sexual acts on him when she was around 5 years old, and he allegedly touched her when she was 10.

Angelina County authorities arrested Acevedo on June 1.

Traffic Accident Claims the Life of East Texas Man

The driver of a one vehicle accident has died from his injuries. DPS reports 53-year-old Royce Dewayne Richards, of Mount Pleasant, died Monday at East Texas Medical Center where he had been hospitalized the past several days.

According to DPS troopers, around 1 p.m. June 1, Richards lost control of his car on CR 1312 in Titus County, left the roadway, struck a fence and overturned. He was transported to ETMC where he had been listed in critical condition
