East Texas Man in Custody in Connection with Grandmother’s Shooting Death

Following a manhunt in Rains County on Wednesday night, Sheriff Deputies and the Texas Rangers apprehended Brandon Paul Couch in connection with the shooting death of his grandmother, 78-year-old Mattie Couch.

According to KLTV, the victim was found dead from a gunshot wound to the chest at her home on County Rd. 1421 in Point, Texas, in Rains County.

Authorities received a call from the victim’s son after he found his mother dead and told deputies Brandon lived with his grandmother at the house.

A search for the suspect went into the night and Brandon was found in a wooded area near his grandmother’s home where he was taken into custody.

No formal charges have been filed at this time.
