The Tyler Parks and Recreation Department is celebrating its16th year of offering American Karate.

Taught by a reknowned instructor with more than 30 years’ experience, Robert Lamont brings his expertise to the Glass Recreation Center. Attendees will learn discipline, respect and self-motivation along with basic self-defense skills and techniques.

The Tuesday classes for the fall session will begin Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. for youth ages 5 to 18 and 7 p.m. for adults. Classes run through Nov. 15. If desired, students may attend two classes per week. Lamont also holds classes at Hubbard Middle School.

Belt testing, Ninja Camp and tournament competitions are all available to students taking this class for a nominal fee. Further details on these competitions will be provided by the instructor.

The fee for the season is $60 per child or adult. Family rates are also available.
