Toy collectors everywhere are celebrating 50 years of G. I. Joe this year.

The world's first action figure was first released around Christmas time of 1964 and has been popular ever since. Hasbro's head of research at the time announced that the action figures were designed to honor veterans who served in Korea. This motif has remained true throughout the past 50 years.
