The opening of Gallery Main Street’s new “Glassy and Glossy” fine art exhibit is set for 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5. The public is invited to attend the free reception for the Gallery’s last exhibit of 2016. The opening is one of several events scheduled for the weekend downtown, all within a walking distance from each other.

“Six different events will occur throughout the downtown area on Saturday,” said City of Tyler Main Street Department Leader Beverly Abell. “Most of the events are come-and-go, so visitors can enjoy a full evening of dining at one of the fabulous downtown restaurants, socializing and arts.”

A large number of pieces were entered for consideration by a jury of artists who scores each submitted piece. The pieces with the highest scores are selected to be part of the exhibit. The reception will provide an opportunity to meet the artists. All artwork on display will be available for purchase.

“With Christmas coming soon, we hope people will consider giving original art as a one-of-a-kind gift, Abell said. “It is good to support our local artists in order to encourage them and keep them as a great asset to our community.”

Other downtown events include:

  • A “Fall into Luxury” fashion show (ticket required) at Martin Walker Law Firm, 121 N. Spring;
  • The “Alpha Dogs of Comedy” (ticket required) at Liberty Hall, 103 E. Erwin St.;
    An art and photography show at 103 S. Broadway Ave. featuring the artwork of Dace Lucia Kidd
  • “Vinyl Night” at Strada Caffe, 302 E. Front St.; and
  • Dia de los Muertos – Viva la Vida at the T.B. Butler Plaza.

Gallery Main Street is a project of the City of Tyler Main Street Department in cooperation with the volunteers of the Downtown Tyler Arts Coalition and Heart of Tyler, Inc. The Gallery opens a new juried exhibit approximately every eight weeks.
