Two doughnut shops in Tyler were robbed early Monday morning and Tyler police are investigating whether the two robberies are connected.

Police first responded to Tyler Donut at 508 W. Front St. where an employee told officers a man entered the store shortly after 7 a.m. armed with a handgun demanding money from the register.

The suspect described as a black male approximately 5”10, 200lbs wearing dark clothing fled the scene southbound from the store.

A short time later, around 7:30 a.m. officers responded to Country Donuts, located at 215 N. Beckham, in reference to a theft.  Upon arrival officers contacted an employee who advised that a black male entered the store and grabbed the cash register and ran out of the store with it.

Customers chased the suspect, causing him to drop the cash register, but he was able to enter a vehicle and flee the scene.  The suspect is described as a black male approximately 5’7” to 5’10”, 195 lbs. wearing a gray hoodie.

The suspect left the scene in a tan/cream vehicle.  This case is also still under investigation.
