Houston Texans Cut Tight End Owen Daniels

The Houston Texans on Tuesday cut longtime tight end Owen Daniels, who’s had a series of health problems and missed 11 games in 2013 with a fractured fibula.

Daniels, who was in the last year of a three-year, $15 million contract, was released by team he was drafted by in 2006. He said Monday he would be willing to restructure his contract to stay with Houston, but the Texans decided to let him go to save $4.5 million against the cap.

He is second all-time in receptions, yards and touchdowns in Texans history, all behind star wide receiver Andre Johnson.
