According to Kensington Palace, Prince William and Kate have a royal baby boy. The birth of the new heir was announced by Kensington Palace after Kate had been in the hospital for more than 14 hours.

The royal 'tot' was born at 4:24 p.m. and weighs 8 pounds, 6 ounces. The Duke of Cambridge, that would be William, was present for the birth. "The queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well and will remain in hospital overnight" the site reads.

Cheers broke out at St. Mary's Hospital, where the baby was born, and Buckingham Palace did the same when the announcement was released.

A huge crowd gathered outside of the palace to wait for the formal, signed birth announcement that was driven from the hospital to the palace. Following tradition, the document was taken into the palace to be shown to the Queen before it was placed on an easel in the palace court.

The Royal tot is third in line to the British throne after its grandfather, Prince Charles, and father, Prince William. The reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, has been on the throne 61 years. The baby is the queen's third great-grandchild.

Supposedly, the royal palace did not want to announce of the birth via Twitter in order to maintain “‘the theatre’ of a genuine royal occasion.” But according to the Clarence House Twitter feed, it looks like they may have broken their own rule.

On July 2, reporters started lining up outside St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington to prep for the baby’s birth, with parking suspensions around the hospital in effect until the end of the month. Kate finally went into labor earlier today.

Congratulations to the brand new moma, papa and their bouncing baby future monarch, the Prince of Cambridge.
