Obviously, Jake Owen loves country music. So when he encountered a self-professed country music hater recently, the star used his charm and talent to convince her that, maybe, country music ain't so bad.

Owen had a concert scheduled at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn. Friday evening (July 11), and before the show, he decided to relax by the pool with his trainer, working on his already golden tan. While lounging, the star met three Connecticut moms and friends since middle school, Ellen Casey, Terri Smith and Nancy Sitarz, who were there celebrating their fiftieth birthdays.

"We had a spa day for all of our birthdays, then it was margaritas at the pool," Casey tells People Country. "We were just there laughing and chatting. Then I see these boys staring at us and I'm thinking they're either going to pull something or they're going to hit on us!"

The 'boys' were Owen and his trainer. The group chatted for an hour, Casey shares, adding that they "bonded because my son is in a band called Hostage Calm and Jake was saying how the best thing about what he does for a living is how proud his parents are of him."

Ever the ladies man, Owen bought the women drinks and lunch, and also gave them a surprise: tickets to the show -- on him!

"Terri was the one who said she hated country music and she didn't believe he was anybody, so she wouldn't even take a picture with him," Casey recalls. "He asked us which one of us was the responsible one, so he knew what name to leave at will call. I told him that's me. And Terri is still not believing him! She's like, 'There's not going to really be tickets.'"

Fast forward to the concert, when the 32-year-old singer -- who nabbed the ladies floor seats -- took extreme delight in telling the crowd about his newfound friends.

"Where's Terri?" the 'Beachin'' hitmaker asked during his show. "I was eavesdropping at the pool today and overheard someone say they hated country music." Then, to the gals' delight, he pulled them all up onstage, letting them watch the show from his tiki bar on set.

Mission accomplished. Smith now admits her conversion to country music, giving an enthusiastic "Yes!" when asked if she loves it. "I am especially a fan of Jake Owen -- a huge fan. It was a weekend we'll never forget!"

Owen is smack dab in the middle of his 2014 Days of Gold Tour which wraps up Oct. 25 in his hometown of Vero Beach, Fla. Along the way, he'll hit 55 cities with Eli Young Band, Parmalee, Thomas Rhett and the Cadillac Three in tow.
