Former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly has revealed he has cancer.

The Hall of Famer says squamous cell carcinoma has been detected in his upper jaw. He will undergo surgery on Friday.

Kelly says tests show the cancer has not spread. According to Kelly:

The past couple of weeks have been difficult for me. Because of the nature of social media, I thought it would be best to share with everyone what has been going on with my health."

Kelly, 53, also says, "Doctors have told me that my prognosis for recovery is very good.”

Kelly, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002, led the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowl appearances.
