Some of my in studio guests last week on Radio Texas, Live were John David Kent (JDK) and The Dumb Angels. The name Dumb Angels comes from Beach Boy Brian Wilson while JDK's music comes from the heart. Growing up in Texas and influenced by the likes of John Denver and Willie Nelson JDK feels like he is finally writing what comes natural to him. The video for his current single 'My Girl' was chosen as CMTs Pick Of The Week towards the end of 2010 which then caused radio to take notice, usually it's the other way around.

But doing things a little different is nothing new to JDK who was the drummer for a grunge rock band in the 90's called 'Radish' that toured Japan, Europe and made the late night television rounds from Late Night With Conan O'Brien the The Late Show With David Letterman, but it ultimately brought him right back home to Texas.

...he’s most pleased that guys and girls alike can identify with, or know someone like, the girl in the song. “I’ve been really blessed to turn out a song like that, that people can relate to because, really, that’s what it’s all about — to find that balance between something you’re happy with, but also something that people can relate to.”

The new single is fresh, different and definitely worth a listen and in case you missed it last Saturday here it is in video form.
