All of us at 101.5 KNUE are proud to be part of East Texas, and we are especially proud to live in a place where we hold our military and first responders in such high regard. KNUE and Patterson UTI are proud to announce this week’s “Hometown Hero,” 1st Sgt. Michel Johnson of the Texas Army National Guard. 1st Sgt. Michel Johnson was nominated by his wife, Jamie, who said:

My husband Michael has been in the military for 22 years this coming June. Michael is currently the rank of first sergeant and serves at the unit in Waxahachie. He joined the military when he was 17. His career has been very distinguished and he has earned the respect of his peers and subordinates. He has served two tours overseas, most recently in Afghanistan. He returned from the SFAT mission in August 2013, after being gone for 14 months. He also served as the demobilization NCOIC and made sure all 400+ troops on his mission got home to their families before he did. He never stops being a first sergeant, always being there for his troops through the entire month and not just one weekend a month. He’s my hero.

To show our appreciation for Michael's dedication to his country and community, he will receive a plaque courtesy of Congratulations Awards in Jacksonville.
