All of us at 101.5 KNUE are proud to be part of East Texas, and we are especially proud to live in a place where we hold our military and first responders in such high regard. KNUE and Patterson UTI are proud to announce this week’s “Hometown Hero,” Staff Sgt. Monty Ward Jr. of the United States Air force. Now Staff Sgt. Ward serves the community of Arp as a police officer.

Here's how Matthew Ward, Monty's brother, described Staff Sgt. Ward;

Monty was a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force, serving 8 years on active duty and numerous tours to Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, Europe, Guam and elsewhere. He served as  a parachutist and survival instructor for pilots and aircrew members. Staff Sgt. Ward has been awarded numerous medals including a combat action medal from a deadly mission in which casualties happened on both sides. He also served as a flight commander for the base honor guard providing escorts for fallen heroes returning home and rendering the military honors they so deserved. Monty now serves the citizens of Arp and Smith County as a SWAT Officer and a police training officer and instructor.

Monty has dedicated his life and career to helping others and I'm proud of the hero he has become. His wife Charlsie and two beautiful daughters couldn't have asked for a better father and husband.

To show our appreciation for all that Staff Sgt. Monty Ward for his service and dedication to his country and his community, he will receive a plaque courtesy of Congratulations Awards in Jacksonville. They can take care of all your awards, trophies, engraving and gift needs.
