The holiday season is supposed to be all about giving but oftentimes, we forget that in the hustle and bustle of shopping for gifts and baking Christmas cookies. Gold-hearted singer Lauren Alaina didn't forget what's truly important about season.

Alaina spent Tuesday, Dec. 17 visiting Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt as part of Musicians on Call's weekly Bedside Performance programs.

The former 'American Idol' contestant with the big, bold voice spent time with the families at the hospital, talking to them about their unique holiday traditions. She also sang Christmas songs for the patients and encouraged them to join her in song.

Alaina pointed out that being in the hospital for the holidays is especially tough for children, which is why she made it her mission to spread some festive cheer and did her level best to put a smile on the face of everyone she encountered.

"Everyone deserves a smile for the holidays," Alaian said. "And smiling isn’t exactly the first word that comes to mind when you think of a hospital, but I went there with that goal to make that happen for everyone I met."

She continued, "It wasn’t as easy in some rooms as it was in others, but at the end of the day, I made it happen somehow. I can’t imagine spending my holidays in the hospital. I honestly don’t know if I’d feel like smiling either, but I know it would mean a lot to me to have someone visit. I hope I made a difference."

During her surprise visit, Alaina belted out holiday favorites like 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,' 'Jingle Bells,' 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town,' 'Jingle Bell Rock' and 'Silent Night.'

With her sunny disposition, gorgeous voice, infectious smile and generous, kind heart, we're thinking that Alaina more than succeeded in her goal to make a difference in the lives of the children she visited!
