Talk about making lemonade from lemons! Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild couldn't sing one afternoon, but instead of calling it a day she created one of the most memorable moments from 'Day Drinking,' the group's hit song from the just-released 'Pain Killer' album.

The whistle that opens the track came because the dark-haired female singer of LBT had nearly lost her voice. “We were writing with Troy Verges and Barry Dean and it was after a long run on the road and I just couldn’t sing,” Fairchild tells Taste of Country Nights radio host Sam Alex. “I was whistling what Troy was playing on the mandolin. It was his idea, I was just whistling out of necessity.”

'Day Drinking' is one of 13 unique tracks on the group's sixth studio album, the follow-up to 'Tornado.' 'Girl Crush' and 'Quit Breaking Up With Me' are two others that stand out on a very eclectic album. One would hardly expect less from a band with such eclectic personal tastes. When they're not performing or shuttling kids to school, Fairchild, Phillip Sweet, Kimberly Schlapman and Jimi Westbrook enjoy everything from decorating to cooking.

Schlapman has her own cooking show on GAC, and offered a recipe no cook can screw up. It's called New Bride's Soup and is basically vegetables (canned or fresh) with condensed tomato soup and fresh herbs. New husbands can thank her on Twitter.

Sam Alex is the host of Taste of Country Nights radio, a syndicated night show which airs on more than 60 Townsquare Media Group stations nationwide.
