Three generations of female country stars joined together to close out the 2016 CMA Country Christmas TV special on Monday night (Nov. 28): Loretta Lynn, Trisha Yearwood and Jennifer Nettles came together to perform Lynn's holiday classic "Country Christmas."

Written by Lynn, "Country Christmas" is the title track of the country icon's 1966 holiday album. Lynn sang each verse by herself, with Nettles and Yearwood harmonizing with her on each chorus, as the audience at the Grand Ole Opry House clapped along. Readers can press play on the video above to watch.

During her performance, Lynn sported one of her classic lace dresses, in a bright blue hue -- a nod to her recently released Christmas album, White Christmas Blue. The project is available on Amazon and iTunes and is Lynn's first holiday project since Country Christmas.

Yearwood was making her CMA Country Christmas debut this year. To mark the occasion, she also performed a solo rendition of "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" and she and Nettles closed out the two-hour event with "The Man With the Bag." The former tune appears on Yearwood and husband Garth Brooks' new Christmas album, Christmas Together; it was supposed to be a duet, but after Yearwood sang the first verse, Brooks “just walked out.”

“The producer’s looking at me as I passed the board. I’m like, ‘I can’t contribute to that. Just let her have the whole thing,'” he recalls. “It was gorgeous. It may be my favorite record on the record.”
