Lowe’s is the latest brick and mortar store to feel the pinch of slumping sales, resulting in the closure of 51 stores throughout the United States and Canada.

In a statement released Monday (Nov. 5), the company announced the closure of 20 stores across 13 states in the U.S. as well as 31 locations in Canada according to newsroom.lowes.com. Some will close immediately, while others will go through a “store closing sale.” All affected stores will be closed by February 1, 2019.

“While decisions that impact our associates are never easy, the store closures are a necessary step in our strategic reassessment as we focus on building a stronger business,” said Marvin R. Ellison, Lowe’s president and CEO.

Ellison also stated the company will work with employees impacted by the closures transition to nearby stores.

In addition to the listed stores, Lowe’s will also consolidate or close four non-facilities; however, those locations were not disclosed.

East Texas Lowe's stores appear to be safe from the closures. The only store to close in Texas will be in Irving.

Lowe's has also become the new home for Craftsman tools since Sears is closing it's doors as well.

Lowe’s began in North Carolina in 1946 and opened its first stores in Canada in 2007.
