At 4:44 a.m. this morning (Wednesday), Tyler police responded to an armed robbery at Food Fast -- Exxon  at 4201 University Blvd.

The store clerk told officers  he was outside the store smoking when he was approached by two black males wearing all black, ski masks and armed with handguns.

The suspects took the clerk inside the store and demanded cash from the register. A customer walked into the store during the robbery and was not harmed. The suspects fled on foot to the rear of the store when police were called.

Upon searching the area behind the store with a police K-9 they located one of the suspects lying in the wooded area who had been shot in the lower right leg.  Officers located a gun and other evidence linking him to the robbery.

The suspect was identified as 17-year-old Jaqun Jamel Dawson, of Dallas. Dawson was transported to a local hospital and was treated for his injury.  Investigators will be seeking an arrest warrant for aggravated robbery on Dawson today.

Officers set up a perimeter, but were not able to locate the second suspect after several hours of searching.
