Being from the south, I have (unfortunately) seen this before, but not this bad. A swarm of mayflies engulfing these gas pumps in Slidell, LA.

According to the Encyclopedia Britannica mayflies have a 24-hour life span and emerge as the summer months occur. They have other names as well, including shadfly, sandfly, dayfly, fishfly and drake.

Fish love to snack on these mainly freshwater insects that are known to turn fresh air foul during their swarms.

I don't care what other names they may have, I just know I'm with the guy who chose to drive on by. I sure hope that gas station had more pumps available, mayfly free!
