Miranda Lambert went through one of the most high-profile divorces in country music history, but she's steadfastly refused to talk about it in public. In a new interview, she addresses her reasons for not answering questions about her split from Blake Shelton.

The couple abruptly announced their divorce in July of 2015 after four years of marriage that were dogged by constant tabloid allegations of trouble, which they repeatedly denied. Lambert bared her soul in the songs for her current album, The Weight of These Wings, but refused to promote the album with interviews. Billboard reports she made that decision after putting an end to a pre-release interview when a journalist asked about the divorce.

"I just didn't need to talk about the record," she tells Billboard. "If you want to hear my side of the story or my opinion of what happened, it’s all on there. There’s no mystery anymore -- take from it what you will."

The songs on the massive double album encompass the highs and lows of the year following the couple's divorce, and while support for the less commercial, singer-songwriter focus has not been as strong at country radio, the album is a critical and commercial success that was recently certified Platinum.

Lambert says the aftermath of her divorce has changed her permanently.

"I won’t look at things ever again in the same light, because different things in your life bring you to a deeper level with yourself. I won’t take pain for granted anymore."
