Murder + Kidnapping Suspect Back in East Texas

A Henderson County man charged in the shooting death of a Tyler woman and kidnapping his pregnant girlfriend were brought back to East Texas Monday evening following his arrest in Galveston Friday Night.

Jackie Martez Guthrie, 22, is accused of fatally shooting Chantel Barret, 18.Following the shooting; Deputies say Guthrie abducted his girlfriend, Tiffany Hurd who is 7 months pregnant with his child.

The two were spotted in Galveston where authorities arrested Guthrie. He is being held in the Henderson County Jail on a two million dollar bond.

The shooting took place around 10:30pm Thursday night in Coffee City.

Funeral Services for Chantel Barret were held Monday in Henderson.
