May 15-21 is set aside each year as National Police Week.  All across the nation this week police officers and their families will remember and honor those who have fallen, making the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting us and so should we.

Often we take for granted what they do but did you know according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund --officer fatalities to date this year in the United States total 71, a 20 percent increase over last year. Deaths of officers by gunfire alone have seen a 57 percent increase compared to this time last year.

They are glamorized and sometimes villainized  on film and in television but day in and day out it is because of them going to work everyday that we can go about our own daily routines, in safety.  So this week be sure to say thanks to a policeman or woman for the sacrifices they make and if you'd like to read more about National Police Week check out this article from NorthJersey.com
