Lon Morris was founded in 1854 was the oldest junior college in the state. But in 2012, the school filed for bankruptcy and the campus was liquidated.

And know, Atlanta, Georgia founded Carver College will take over the campus according to the Jacksonville Progress. The school was named after scientist George Washington Carver. Carver College is accredited through the Association for Biblical Higher Education.

A release from Carver College stated that it will "focus on providing theological education opportunities for pastors, associate ministers, church members or anyone desiring formal theological training."

Right now the former Lon Morris campus is being rented but future plans do include purchasing the property.

There will be an open house on August 22 at the administrative office at 501 Devereaux Street in Jacksonville. Registration will also begin at that time.
