Wills Point — The driver of a fatal hit-and-run accident last week in Van Zandt County has come forward.
The Department of Public Safety says the driver of a van that struck and killed 16-year-old Casey Grant Eggeling, of Wills Point, has been identified as Rheuben Lann, also of Wills Point. DPS investigators say Eggeling was struck and killed while walking along FM 47, north of Wills Point. The hit-and-run about 3 a.m. Friday.
Fire Damages Tyler Apartments
Tyler — A fire over the weekend damaged nearly a dozen homes at a Tyler apartment complex. Authorities say the fire broke out at the Autumn Glen Apartments just before 3 a.m. Saturday. All the residents got out safely and no injuries were reported. It appears the fire was electrical, but investigators have not yet determined an exact cause.
Former U.S. Marine Sentenced To Death
Tehran, Iran ( AP) — A former U.S. Marine has been sentenced to death in Iran after being convicted of working for the CIA. The family of 28-year-old Amir Hekmati says he was in the country visiting his grandmother. Iran says Hekmati received special training before heading to Iran for his alleged intelligence mission. He has 20 days to appeal.
Texas Sues For $1 Billion
AUSTIN (AP) — Texas is trying to get more than $1 billion in damages from a lawsuit that accuses Johnson & Johnson of overstating the safety of an anti-psychotic drug and trying to influence how often it was used by patients in the state’s Medicaid program. Jury selection begins today in Austin in the case. The trial is expected to last at least two weeks.
White House To Host NBA-Champion Mavericks
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is hosting the Dallas Mavericks today at the White House. Obama, who roots regularly for the Chicago Bulls, will congratulate the NBA champions for their 2011 title. He’ll also recognize the team’s support for the men and women in the U.S. military.
