Recent fires in East Texas have officials asking not to do any outdoor burning with the high winds were currently experiencing.

According to kltv.com, fire crews were called to a fire on highway 155. Residents were burning leaves when the house caught on fire, completely destroying it.

Smith County Deputy Fire Marshall Eric Lowery passed on some information we may not have known, "the winds right now are up to 28 mph, after 25 (mph) the Texas outdoor burning laws prohibit any kind of outdoor burning. We’re not necessarily under a burn ban but the law states that if it reaches 25 mph or above, outdoor burning is prohibited."

Winds should be a little calmer today, but not much.

This morning, Gladewater Fire Chief Wayne Smith has asked Gladewater residents to not do any burning for the next several days. If you have any questions regrading this, call the City of Gladewater.
