Summer break is here, and I am ecstatic. No, I don't get to have much time off during the sSummer months, but my wife and I will have all three of our kids under the same roof again. We miss that.  My oldest will be home after her first year away at college. My son will be a sophomore in high school and my youngest daughter is getting set to be a fifth-grader. My wife and I realize that summers like this will be rarer and rarer, so I decided to make this a Summer of Movies.

I don't get out to see movies that much anymore, but back in the '70s, '80s, and '90s, I was a movie hound. Comedies, dramas, sci-fi, action, through the years, I've compiled a huge list of movies that I could watch again and again.

And, many of these movies transcend the ages. So, I've been trying to think of movies that are at least 15 years old that would make for great in-house movie nights.

It seems that whenever I'm in a movie store, my mind goes blank to that long list of movies that I wanted my kids to experience. So, I've started a short list below and I'm hoping you can add titles of some of your favorites in the comment section.

Remember, I'm looking for movies that would be enjoyable for kids between the ages of 10-20. I'm also avoiding naming Disney animated movies. Chances are very good that everyone in our family has seen most all of them.

Here are some movies I've thought of so far

  • City Slickers
  • Magnificent 7
  • The Pelican Brief
  • Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
  • Field of Dreams
  • National Treasure 1 & 2
  • Top Gun
  • Princess Bride

  • Fiddler on the Roof
  • West Side Story
  • Men in Black
  • Mrs Doubtfire
