“I am really grateful for and touched by the worldwide outpouring of love and concern,” the singer says in a statement issued to People. “I am feeling good and enjoying total support from my family and friends, along with a team of wellness and medical practitioners both here in the US and at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne. I’m totally confident that my new journey will have a positive success story to inspire others!”
Country Stars Who’ve Been Affected by Cancer
The singer and actress has metastatic breast cancer that has spread to her sacrum. Her husband says she has already undergone a short course of photon radiation therapy supplemented with other natural wellness therapies, and the treatment has helped her pain go from a level eight to a level two after a week of treatment. He, too, is remaining optimistic during his wife’s cancer fight.
“We both have the same unshakable belief that she’s going to have a wonderful success story,” her husband, John Easterling, says. “We’re not trying to be positive. We have an absolute knowingness that we can turn this around.”
Newton-John postponed the first half of her concert tour due to back pain, which turned out to be an effect of the breast cancer that had metastasized to her sacrum. She was first diagnosed with cancer in 1992, but entered remission after undergoing chemotherapy and a partial mastectomy.
