In a shocking move this morning, the International Olympic Committee decided to remove the sport of wrestling starting in the year 2020. The sport is one of the most ancient and well known sports in history. The decision has sparked a lot of criticism since it was made just a few hours ago.

Freestyle and Roman-Greco wrestling will be a part of the upcoming 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janerio, but will be excluded starting in 2020. There is still a chance that the decision could be reversed at the next meeting in May, but that is doubtful.

The decision was made by secret ballot as voted on by the 15 member board. Wrestling was chosen out of a group of sports including modern pentathlon, taekwondo and field hockey. The purpose of the move is to focus more on the Olympics 25 "core" sports, and opening up opportunity to add a 26th.

Wrestling will now join seven other sports in applying for inclusion in 2020. The other sports wanting to be apart of the games are are a combined bid from baseball and softball, karate, squash, roller sports, sport climbing, wakeboarding and wushu. There is only one slot to fill.

FILA, the governing body of wrestling, said they are appalled and astonished at the decision and plans to do everything in its power to get the decision reversed.
