With the huge hurricane Harvey relief effort getting the focus now, don't ya kinda wonder if other every day charities will feel forgotten and suffer with a lack of donations?  One Texas restaurant chain is doing its best to make sure that doesn't happen, and just made huge donations to area food banks to help all Texans who need it.

Applebee's recently gave more than 250,000 meals to neighbors around Texas through the five main food banks as part of the Buy 1, Provide 1 initiative.

Public Relations specialist Derek Farley told me that all 65 Applebee's restaurants in Texas were part of the push to provide donation funds for one meal for every regular-price entrée sold at participating Applebee’s during August.

The restaurants will provide the meals through a partnership with these Food Banks:

  • North Texas Food Bank in Dallas
  • Tarrant Area Food Bank in Ft. Worth
  • Houston Food Bank
  • Central Texas Food Bank for restaurants in Austin and Waco
  • East Texas Food Bank for restaurants in East Texas and surrounding markets

Hunger happens, and even though Harvey has created a huge need for food donations, the need at existing charities is as steady as ever. It's awesome to see our neighbors in need get meals when they need them.

With the holidays coming up, you know there will be more opportunities to pitch in with meal and monetary donations at our East Texas Food Bank, and we'll keep you updated on how to help.

Also note that on Wednesday, September 27, all Texas Roadhouses will donate all of its profits made from 4 pm to 10 pm to hurricane relief.
