A grandmother and her four grandchildren, all under the age of 9, were victims of the flooding last night in Palestine.

According to authorities, 6 to 10 homes in a Palestine neighborhood were severely damaged following the heavy rainfall and ensuing flooding which began just after midnight.  At dawn, after the flood waters receded, police in Palestine recovered the five bodies.

"The water came down the hill," Muniz said. "The street was full of mud, so the water just came up. With the enormous amount of rain we had, we had people tell us that within minutes, the water was waist deep."

Police say that after midnight they began receiving calls for help, many of which were from the 100 block of Timber Lane.  Waters were so high that they reached the roof lines of many homes.

While the names of the deceased have not been released, police indicate that the bodies were of a 64 year old woman and four children, aged 9, 8, 7 and 6.
